Joshua Tree National Park, March 2015

Location: Joshua Tree National Park, Geology Tour back-country board
Itinerary: 2 days, 1 night backpack. Very short cross country hike from car to reach the 1+ mile rule
Date: March 7-8, 2015

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that you are about 3 hours from Joshua Tree National Park. And one of the best things about Joshua Tree is that you can camp ANYWHERE (as long as it’s not a day-use designated area, and as long as you are 1 mile from a road, and 500 feet from a trail).

Also, another great thing: In order to camp in the backcountry, all you need to do is park by 1 of the 13 backcountry registration boards, fill out a permit, and then you’re off! For the most part, you’re allowed to travel anywhere you want, off trail, and find your own perfect campsite. So, this is what we’re doing!
